Hi, I’m Dee, the founder of The Tangy Loaf, where a lifelong love for homemade food meets a passion for teaching and discovery. My journey began in the kitchens of my childhood, surrounded by my abuela, mamá, and tías, whose hands crafted meals with love and care. Those early moments shaped my connection to food and inspired me to explore the transformative power of cooking.
Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, when life slowed down, and the kitchen became my sanctuary. In those uncertain times, I dove deep into the art of making everything from scratch, blending old family traditions with new culinary adventures. What started as a personal journey grew into The Tangy Loaf—a space to share the comfort and joy of homemade bread and baked goods while empowering others to find confidence in the kitchen.
With a background in healthcare and an MBA from the University of Dubuque, I’ve learned to balance strategy and creativity in building The Tangy Loaf. These experiences have shaped my approach to teaching, connecting with others, and running a business that celebrates the simple pleasures of homemade food.
At The Tangy Loaf, we’re more than just bread. Through our Mini Chef series, I’ve combined my passion for baking and teaching to create fun, hands-on cooking experiences for kids. Each session explores a different cuisine, from handmade pasta to vibrant tacos, encouraging young chefs to experiment, gain confidence, and discover the magic of cooking. Teaching children these skills is not just about making meals—it’s about inspiring independence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for wholesome food.
Outside the kitchen, I’m an avid traveler and cyclist. Whether it’s discovering global flavors in bustling markets or pedaling through scenic trails, I draw endless inspiration from the world around me. These experiences infuse every loaf, class, and recipe with stories and flavors that connect us all.
